Located in the Old Port and Arts District of picturesque Portland, Maine, The Press Hotel is surrounded by artists, entertainers and authors, and is a short walk to Portland waterfront and Casco Bay. Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, The Press is a luxury boutique that features vintage design elements inspired by a 1920’s press office, including a vintage-styled journalist desk in every guestroom and an iconic front-desk “letterpress wall” in the lobby, greeting travelers upon their arrival and setting the tone for a unique hotel experience.

In January 2024, Continental Contractors began work on a renovation project within the hotel that included several public spaces, extensive ADA modifications, and a light aesthetic upgrade to 40 of the property’s 110 guestrooms. Public space highlights included a new Stracciatella polished quartzite bar top stone, custom millwork at the front and back bar, and refreshed paint and vinyl wall coverings in the popular lobby bar, Inkwell, aptly named for its 1920’s newsroom theme. Similarly, Union, the hotel’s prestigious dining venue, was updated with a new Wakanda quartzite bar stone top and artistic lighting. Continental also took meticulous detail when installing an ADA compliant dropdown bar to both public areas as well.

We found the people of Portland to be very friendly and joyful. The Maine winter weather at times made this project a little more difficult. It was the first time I ever had a dumpster fill-up with snow!”
– Nestor Orellana, Project Manager

During the renovation, Continental also facilitated extensive modifications to five public restrooms and seven guest bathrooms to ensure they met ADA standards. To do so required the relocation of the vanities, installation of new barn doors, as well as new tub and shower surrounds. Additionally, the bathrooms received new finish materials, tile, plumbing fixtures, and accessories to complete the overall aesthetic.

While at The Press, Continental contributed their expertise in updating 40 guestrooms with new vinyl wall coverings and sconces, putting the finishing touches on an otherwise newsworthy property. The total renovation spanned four months and was completed in April 2024, meeting the ‘press’ing deadline for the client, and now making headlines on our ‘news’ page!
