Located minutes away from Los Angeles International Airport and a short drive to the glitz and glamour of LA, the Hotel MdR DoubleTree by Hilton in Marina del Rey, California is the perfect hub location for both frequent and new travelers to sunny Southern California. Just steps from the beautiful marina, the hotel features a casual, yet modern design that perfectly captures that contemporary SoCal vibe.

In November 2021 Continental Contractors was brought in to give the hotel a fresh look for the upcoming new year. Their task? To renovate the property’s guest rooms – spanning five floors of the hotel – while maneuvering some small spaces. “One of the big challenges of this project was the size of the elevators,” said Continental Contractors Project Manager Scott DeCurtis. “Since the hotel elevators weren’t big enough for the carpeting and FF&E we had to use a manlift to the room balconies to install the large items.”

That little extra muscle (and intuitive problem-solving) paid off and gave the property owners exactly what they were looking for – a completely transformed space. Prior to the ‘21/22 renovation, Hotel MdR changed ownership and was in need of a quick renovation that could reflect the modern, urban feel of the new brand without sacrificing that West Coast charm and relaxed beach community feel. Continental was up to the challenge and worked closely with local design firm Indidesign to create a look unique to the property, beautifully mixing brand consistencies with an independent, boutique style.

Aesthetic changes to the 280 guestrooms included new vinyl wall coverings, closet millwork, vanity tops, carpet, and fresh paint. The guest bathrooms were renovated with new shower doors, floor tile, bathroom wall tile, plus new bath fixtures and accessories. Continental also worked hard to produce a build of new space for MdR which involved installing plumbing, electrical, drywall, new floor tile, and paint.

In addition to a complete guestroom renovation, Continental provided a refresh to the finishes and FF&E in the hotel’s public spaces. “The outdoor bar/lanai/lobby area is now a bright, airy space with natural tones and tropical elements, drawing on the relaxed coastal vibe of the nearby southern California beaches,” offered Renee Bagshaw, Continental’s Chief Operating Officer.

Continental completed the project in just over two months, finishing in January 2022, helping Hotel MdR ring in the new year with a new look. View more pictures of Hotel MdR DoubleTree Marina del Rey on the “Our Work” page of our website here.
