The Press Hotel, located in the Old Port district of picturesque Portland, Maine, is a part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. A luxury boutique property, The Press features vintage design elements inspired by a 1920’s press office in every guestroom and throughout common spaces. An iconic front-desk “letterpress wall” greets travelers upon their arrival, setting the tone for a truly unique hotel experience.

In January 2024, Continental Contractors set to work on a four month renovation project within the hotel that included several public spaces, extensive ADA modifications, and a light aesthetic upgrade to 40 of the property’s guestrooms. Inkwell, the popular lobby bar, received a new Stracciatella polished quartzite bar top stone, custom millwork at the front and back bar, and refreshed paint and vinyl wall coverings, creating a sophisticated ambiance that beautifully showcases the 1920’s theme of The Press Hotel while also offering contemporary comfort to today’s modern guest. Similarly, Union, the hotel’s prestigious dining venue, was updated with a new Wakanda quartzite bar stone top and artistic lighting. An ADA compliant dropdown bar was added to both areas as well. 

Continental also facilitated extensive modifications to five public restrooms and seven guest bathrooms to ensure they met ADA standards which included the relocation of the vanities, installing new barn doors, and new tub and shower surrounds. The bathrooms received new finish materials, tile, plumbing fixtures and accessories to complete the overall aesthetic. 

During this project, Continental also updated 40 guestrooms with new vinyl wall coverings and sconces for a refreshed look. The total renovation was completed in April 2024.
