A fresh and modern take on the quintessential coastal state-of-mind, the Hilton Bayfront San Diego, steps from the Gaslamp Quarter, delivers unparalleled views at every turn. Rising above the San Diego Bay, this signature resort incorporates both city and coastal elements, embracing everything Southern California has to offer.

Continental Contractors had the pleasure of working with the Sunstone Hotel Investors and the property team at the Hilton Bayfront San Diego on two separate renovation projects within the last three years. First in 2019, when Continental renovated 1,190 guest rooms and suites on a very tight timeline – then again in 2021 for a floor-to-ceiling renovation of several public spaces within the property.

The biggest obstacle during the 2019 guest rooms and suites renovation phase was the tight turnaround requested. Slated to finish in July 2019 – at the peak of tourist season for the popular coastal town – the project required a steady line of communication among the owners, property staff, and Continental superintendents. Thanks to teamwork, creativity, and great communication, the new and sophisticated design of this renovation came together in a matter of months. Featuring a nautical, contemporary design and premium amenities, this part of the renovation introduced modern furniture, fresh paint, carpet, wallpaper, suite and corridor tile, and casegood refinishing.

In 2021, during the pandemic, Continental returned to the Hilton Bayfront and stepped in to lead a complete renovation of several public spaces over the course of 11 months, including a complete HVAC system overhaul. “This was a very challenging renovation,” recalls Project Manager Dan Sciortino, “We installed a new HVAC system throughout as well as an abundance of specialty items and had to do it all through COVID while also dealing with nationwide supply chain issues.” Once again, great teamwork and a little creative problem solving, Continental was able to source and install the intricate design details – like custom tile, ceiling fixtures, and millwork – required to make the vibrant and inviting atmosphere a reality.

This impressive floor-to-ceiling renovation included the new Hudson & Nash, the property’s beautiful restaurant/bar “inspired by the classic California road trip.” In addition to the lobby entrance and escalator area, Continental also renovated the buffet and indoor/outdoor event space, as well as a market area for hotel patrons. Continental also added a staff office and additional kitchen storage and freezer space, plus, converted a private dining room to restrooms for the property, ultimately improving the functionality of the space as the hotel prepared for a strong post-pandemic return to travel.

The photos don’t give the project justice in showing the vast scope of this renovation, but they do illustrate the breadth of experience, expertise, and teamwork Continental Contractors brings to each and every job.”
