Known for its Art Deco architecture, vibrant cultures, beautiful beaches, and lively nightlife, it’s no wonder why Miami, Florida is often listed as one of the top ten tourist destinations in the United States. Roughly 26 million people visited Miami in 2022 and the city has continued to see a steady increase in hotel demand across the Magic City over the last few years thanks to high-profile events like the FIFA World Cup and the World Baseball Classic. In 2023, Continental Contractors had the pleasure of orchestrating a massive renovation for one of the city’s most iconic properties, the Intercontinental Miami. The hotel update spanned 13 months, 29 floors, and 652 reimagined luxury guestrooms, suites, and the hotel’s popular Club Lounge.

Touted as “Miami’s Bayfront Icon,” the Intercontinental Miami has been a fixture on the downtown Miami skyline for 40 years. With a waterfront location on Biscayne Bay, steps from the arts and entertainment Brickell neighborhood, the property has always been a popular destination for visitors thanks to its spectacular panoramic views. However, after 40 years on the scene, this impressive property was in need of an upgrade worthy of its surroundings.

In January 2023 Continental Contractors was finally given the all clear to get to work on the property.  “Because of the laborious permit process this project initially encountered, we began renovation behind schedule,” said Project Manager Nestor Orellana. “The Continental team assembled quickly and efficiently to execute what had to be done to get this massive project back on track.” Included in the 652-room count, Continental was tasked with the complete transformation of 22 executive suites and two presidential suites, as well as a reconfiguration of the property’s Club Lounge to allow for two additional guestrooms.

Much of the modern decor now featured in the property was inspired by the dazzling Miami skyline and the Atlantic Ocean views as well as the Art Deco influence of the city. Guestroom baths were completely transformed with new flooring and wall tiles embellished with honed marble accents expertly laid in a chevron pattern, marble-tiled showers, and new stone-top vanities for added luxury.

The renovated presidential suites are simply stunning thanks to noteworthy details like the elegant marble flooring installed in a sophisticated herringbone pattern and the bleached walnut accent walls that add an extra level of warmth, beauty, and comfort to the space. New millwork was installed in the kitchenettes of the executive suites and the bathrooms were fitted with indulgent soaking tubs. All guestrooms received new carpet, wallcoverings, fresh paint, and fixtures that added to the aesthetic.

Continental also upgraded the hotel’s Club Lounge with extensive millwork, new flooring, and vinyl wallcoverings, enhancing the overall guest experience. The total renovation was finally completed in February 2024 – right on schedule. “With teamwork, coordination, and determination, we made up the lost time and delivered beautiful results -– on schedule – to a very satisfied client.”
