Behind the Scenes at the Hyatt Regency Austin Renovation
In April 2025, Continental Contractors began a five-month renovation of the Hyatt Regency Austin refreshing guestrooms, suites, and corridors while the property remained fully operational. What guests never saw was the coordination and craftsmanship happening behind the scenes to deliver a seamless experience from start to finish.
Elevating Guestrooms and Suites
The renovation touched all aspects of the guestroom experience: new wallcoverings, carpet, paint, lighting, and custom furnishings designed to echo the natural warmth and texture of Austin. Bathrooms received new plumbing fixtures and restorative deep cleaning, and two premium suites were transformed with boutique-style kitchenettes featuring stone countertops and striking tile fronts.
Updated finishes and newly framed millwork refreshed the corridors, while ADA and Life Safety enhancements — including 14 fully compliant guestrooms and updated railing — were completed with careful integration to maintain a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic.
Engineering a Solution in a 16-Story Atrium
Among the most technically demanding aspects of the project was the work required high inside the hotel’s open atrium. Accessing and repairing outreach wall sections on the 16th floor required a highly specialized solution: a cantilevered scaffolding system engineered and constructed within the atrium itself.
Project Manager Nestor Orellana shared insight into this pivotal phase:
One of the project’s most complex elements was the cantilevered scaffolding system constructed within the 16th-floor open atrium – a highly specialized solution required to access and complete outreached wall repairs safely. This task demanded exceptional coordination and precision. Our field superintendents led with outstanding communication and attention to detail, and our construction crews executed each phase flawlessly. Partnering with the hotel’s team made the entire process a true success story.”
Photos of the scaffolding, taken during construction, show the scale and precision behind this temporary structure – a testament to the field team’s technical skill and planning.
By September 2025, the Hyatt Regency Austin welcomed guests into refreshed rooms and suites that pair modern design with lasting functionality, all completed without pausing hotel operations. View photos of the completed project on Our Work page.
