Celebrating 20 Years: A Look Back and Our Hopes for the Future
This year, 2023, marks Continental’s 20th year in the hotel renovation industry. We feel so fortunate to have grown our business into the company that we are today, and we know we have only made it this far because of the countless number of great people who worked beside us along the way. We’ll be taking small moments throughout the year to remember and celebrate this milestone, and we hope you’ll celebrate with us. As a kickoff to our celebration, Continental COO Renee Bagshaw interviewed company President and CEO Pete Welch on what he’s learned over the last 20 years – and what he’s looking forward to for the future.
Continental Shines Some Light on the Marriott Marquis San Diego
For years, the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina has stood out as one of the more eye-catching buildings among the San Diego downtown skyline. Why? The two signature towers of the hotel – the north and south towers – resemble the hull of a boat and sail, reminiscent of those that line the private marina in which it sits. It was also the perfect inspiration for the hotel’s recent renovation. Located in the heart of the San Diego Bay, the beautiful waterfront views of the hotel and the contemporary coastal sophistication of its surroundings inspired the reimagined design of the luxurious Marriott Marquis San Diego, completed by Continental Contractors in March 2023.
Safety Under the Hardhat
Last month, as a part of Continental Contractors’ Whole Health Initiative, we welcomed Greg Sizemore to our Annapolis office to discuss “Safety Under the Hardhat: Suicide Prevention in the Construction Industry.” Speaking to our Annapolis team in person, and our field teams and remote offices virtually, Greg not only provided us with a better understanding of the mental health crisis within the construction industry but also provided actionable steps we can take immediately to look out for each other. Representing the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP), Greg’s industry knowledge, personal stories, and passion for the topic made his presentation relevant and moving, and we were incredibly honored to be able to host him for the day.
Women in Construction: Their Challenges, Their Surprises, And Their Hopes for the Future
Continental is celebrating National Women in Construction Week by spotlighting some of our team members who bring their very best to their jobs every day. And, while this nationally celebrated week may have originated as a way to highlight the roles and contributions that women make in the field of construction, at Continental we feel it’s also important to recognize the gender-specific struggles, challenges, and surprises some women have experienced throughout their careers as well.
Inside, Outside (and Everything in Between): More Public Spaces
From inside to outside – and everything in between – when it comes to hospitality renovation Continental has (just about) done it all. After 20 years in hospitality renovation, we’ve never grown tired of the satisfaction we get from breathing new life into an old space, helping it become new again. And, while we may have started out as experts in guestroom renovations, we’ve made a significant mark in public space projects, too.
Taking Good Care: Our Whole Health Initiative
Want to know a secret? Continental Contractors is turning 20 this year. Of course, we’ll celebrate the milestones we’ve hit along the way (nearly 100,000 guestrooms renovated and over $1 billion in revenue!) but we want to make sure we also celebrate the people who got us here. Since day one, we have prioritized treating every stakeholder on every project fairly. That includes not only the clients, subcontractors and vendors, and amazing design and architecture teams we work with, but the employees who show up, day after day, and the families at home who support them.
2022 Reflection. Taking Better Care of Each Other in 2023.
Throughout the last year we have endured both rapid recovery and rough seas in the hospitality and construction industries. We asked Continental Contractors President and CEO Pete Welch for his take on the last 12 months, and what he anticipates for the coming year for Continental and the industry as a whole.
