Public Space Renovation? Think Continental.
Yes, Continental Contractors is a leading hospitality renovation company. We’ve renovated more guestrooms, bathrooms, and corridors than we can count! But did you know we are also expertly qualified in public space renovation? Lobbies, atriums, restaurants, conference facilities — we love this work!
Hidden Renovations
On average, a typical hotel property undergoes a renovation every five to 10 years. That time frame depends on the local market, competition, brand standards, and of course, the economy. This is the reason so many hotels appear to be “under renovation” at any given time. Designers are constantly at work to provide beautiful and timely aesthetics to lobbies and guestrooms. Those new finishes do provide a wow factor to the guests staying there. But what about the “hidden” renovations that one might not ever suspect? Inside the guts of a building, where visitors may never step foot, hotel properties are being upgraded and repaired to keep guests safe, comfortable and connected.
Together Again in Annapolis
On January 1st of this year, Continental Contractors had a lot to celebrate. Sixteen years after our initial move into the Annapolis City Marina complex, our headquarters have moved to an adjacent building, into over 8,500 SF of bright, modern offices. Our team is cohesively together again in Annapolis.
GRADUATE ANNAPOLIS Hotel Renovation
In October 2019, we completed a hotel renovation in our own back yard (well, practically): Graduate Annapolis. The new hotel is designed with a maritime aesthetic — nautical flags, preppy plaid, sailing knots, bright stripes, and brass. If you are in or around Annapolis, it’s well worth the visit!
3 Hot Topics from This Year’s The Lodging Conference
The 25th anniversary of The Lodging Conference kicked off on September 23rd amid torrential downpours in the Phoenix desert. Breaking with tradition, this year’s event was at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. While some of us were initially nostalgic for the iconic campus and sprawling open lawns of the Arizona Biltmore Waldorf Astoria Resort, by our third day at the JW, the updated conference amenities, convenient additional guestrooms, and exceptional hotel staff won us over. Despite the soggy start and new location, this year’s conference topped 2,000 attendees!
Redefining Work/Life Balance
When most people hear the phrase “work/life balance,” they think of maintaining a 50/50 relationship between their job and their life outside of work. But is that really what work/life balance means? Depending on our stage in life, the combination of our desire to succeed professionally, contribute to our communities, maintain our health, and care for our families can feel like a constant juggling act. It is at best an intricate dance of logistics. At times, the juggling is completely overwhelming. As business leaders, we want employees to be productive, happy, to achieve work/life balance. Or perhaps better stated, work/life INTEGRATION, is key.
project spotlight: THE WHITLEY HOTEL
Just last month, we finished up work on an inspiring project we started in December: The Whitley Hotel. It was a demanding, exacting, exhilarating project and we were proud to be a part of it all!
